$12.88 and a few hours!!!!

Well I some how found the time between getting the veggiegarden in, trying to finish a plane, starting dinner for the wife and mowing the lawn, to build a new flight box..http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif

My old box was a monster, just way to big for the field I am flying at now. I don't have to walk far from where we park, so I made a new one.. I used the "MCS" program and it came out pretty good. I hit all the staple holes withbondo and got a coat of primer on it. The drawers are all done and I got the faces on drying over night. I will take some finished pics tomorrow...

Where's the wet bar? :D

Very nice, but thinner wood could have made it much lighter.

City code on the wet bar calls for 1/2"http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gifIn all truth I would have liked to use 3/8 or 1/4 but i had 1/2" and didn't feel like making a trip..
I did save a bunch of weight by using a Cordless drill battery to power it, my old tractor battery weighed a ton..http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gif

Very Nice.. you've inspired me. I haven't found a box on the market that I like that isn't 60 bucks or more so I may have to buld my own as well. Are you going to make a false bottom to keep the lower drawer elevated for easier opening in grass, etc? I find that when you pick most of them up loaded the weight isn't centered across the handle for example the fuel on the end wights down that side.

I was thinking the same as you, just didn't like anything on the market.. I basically laid out everything and built it to fit. The upper slot is not a drawer so to say, I have a plastic organizer for all my small stuff (ie. plugs, small tools and any thing else that is small), I just put aknobon it and it slides in like a drawer. The bottom drawer is only about 7" deep by 4" high and just slides on the bottom, the bottom is getting small feet to lift it up so it doesn't snag on the grass. The small 4" opening on the side is a prop drawer that will house up to 20" props and my retract pump..

You are right about the handle and weight not being centered, with all my stuff in and my cordless starter sitting on the right side, the pick up point it closeto the left side of the handle..
I'm waiting on paint to dry, so I will post pics once it's all done..

Paints dry!!!! I still have to mount my new fuel pump and load the rest of the stuff, put some stickers on itand it's ready to go..

Hey Minn, it's not as heavy as it looked when it was in primer..http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif It's a dream compared to my old one. I don't have pics of it but the wheels were from a hand truck, so that can kind of give you an idea..</p>

Nice looking box, I keep planning one, but when I get close, I buy more stuff to put in it. Like you, I use a couple of plastic boxes for drawers. A small bungee cord makes a real simple way to keep them in place when I move the box around.

That is very nice! I like the walk-in prop closet.

It looks heavy but it really isn't, I haven't put it on a scale yet.. Powering it with a cordless drill battery really saved on the weight. I added a few more things to keep things organized, waiting on glue to dry. I will take some more pics tomorrow with it field ready..

Ok, last pics, I promise,I'm just proud how it came out...
I had somescrap oak from a project so Imade a couple of hex wrench holders to keep them organized. It is all done now and field ready, as you can tell, I have a little more then a few hours in it now and about $22-25 bucks.. That includes the wood, paint, glue and what little hardware I used... The dims are 27" long X 12.5" wide and 12" high, it carries very well. If I had to guess on the weight, I would say 25-30 pounds fully loaded. My 10 year old son can lift it, so it got real light for me.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gifGot that covered!
I have a small fold down cart that works perfect.. I will keep it in the truck when i go to contest just in case I have a far walk, it also transports my kneel down pad and protects the box at the same time..
I been wanting to build a nice box for awhile now, I'm glad I finallytook the time and did it..

Thanks for all the nice comments, if anyone wants to know how I did something, just ask......
