APC Prop Painting

Has anyone used that FUSION paint on an APC prop?
How did it work?
Just wondering as a black prop loooks so much nicer on a warbird than a grey one!!

Thanks
Mike

Mike, paint is not going to stick to the plastic. Guys have been having good success using Rit dye and dying them black.

I saw that somewhere! Does it do anything to the integrity of the prop?

Not that I am aware of. Some of the warbird racing guys I fly with dye their props. These airplanes hit 150-160 MPH

Mike,

I've been painting my APC props for years, and have never EVER had any problem at all.

After balancing the prop, I lightly roughen up the surface with fine sandpaper, and clean it thoroughly.

Then I prime it with rustoleum primer, and spray paint it with Rustoleum.

I nearly always paint the tips, often with various colored stripes, to dress it up. With warbirds, I use black, and always paint the tips either white or yellow.

When done, I re-balance, brushing a little paint on the tip to get a fine balance.

I've never had paint chip off of one of my props.

Mike

A friend of mine is an auto body painter and paints airplane parts for me on ocassion. He has a special plastic "primer" that makes the paint then stick just like on your car bumper.

Sounds expensive LOL I have painted CF and wood props but because injection molded plastics have mold release in the plastic fomulation I wouldn't have thought paint would stick well. Glad some guys are having good results. I'ts details like this that turn a good model into a great one.
