No, seriously...it's the best way to avoid any hangar rush!!!! |
RE: A clever way to store your airplanes!
I have a good story for you . A friend of mine is a divorced and single type... he has a pretty unfinished house, and a girlfriend that is not quite running the show like she would like to.. One day he mentioned to her he was out of room for airplanes..and he told her he might hang one in the living room overhead.. she said "There is no way you are hanging an airplane in the living room !"
Well it didn't sit well with him, and he hung about four airplanes in the living room ! .. Every time i am over there I bump my head on some landing gear ! hahahah Once in awhile he has to stop and jam a new paper towel into an exhaust so it will quit dripping :D |
RE: A clever way to store your airplanes!
Hahhaaahaaa awesome!
But how wifey agreed on the living room crusade;;;;; |
RE: A clever way to store your airplanes!
Looks like the same method I use to store mine in the off season, only in the finished basement. I also hang mine with the wings attached.

Wife ver 2.0 told me to choose between her and my aircraft. I now have wife ver 3.0

Hello Kostas1
In one of your photographs you show a light bulb hanging from the electric wire from the ceiling, next to your plane. When I was in Germany on a visit I saw the same thing and learned that the electric current to the bulb was 230 volts. In the United States our current is only 110 volts in the same application. As a result I have always been afraid of 230 volts. The electric frequency in Germany was also 50 cycles, and ours is 60 cycles. What is the current and cycles in Greece? I know that 230 volts is more efficient since smaller wire can be used. Just curious. No problem. I like your idea of hanging the planes from the ceiling. I store mine on an empty bed. I always put paper towel in the exhaust pipe and wrap a small towel around the engine to catch dripping fuel. Fuel will drip from the front of the engine because there is no seal there. |

Hi there!
Yes....the current that the National Electricity Company provides is at 220-240V@50Hz. |

And yet - When I finished my Corsair my wife said to hang it in the living room because it look beautiful ;<)

Sure is . You know how hard it is to find a woman that will tolerate us and our hobby. You stand a better chance finding a unicorn . :D

So true.....

RE: A clever way to store your airplanes!
This is how I hang my planes in my garage but I use bicycle hooks and small rope. As for the wife thing my wife excepts it(she is even the one that told me to order my first plane) but she does not like it one but. She feels I spend WAY to much money on it and she proeeds to yell at me :(. Just wait till she finds out I'm ordering the landing gear to one of my planes and I am in the process of buying a discontinued TF kit :D. Jordan
|

RE: A clever way to store your airplanes!
hi
i hang them by the tail on the wall is that bad for the motor? i use a heavy duty cloth hanger with foam tubing ,thanks |
RE: A clever way to store your airplanes!
Nice idea, that i thought of it prior to deciding what technique fits me best.
It is a good idea but i didn't have that much space on my walls in my room to do it. I am also thinking if this way of storing your fuselage affects the fuel pick-up tube inside the fuel tank. http://www.basic256.org/media/purzen...on_mark_30.png |
RE: A clever way to store your airplanes!
Kostas, in your pictures above are illustrated some small lag hooks and plastic anchors. I've a question as to whether you used the plastic anchors in sheet rock and inserted the hooks into the plastic anchors or did you screw the lag hooks into ceiling joist?
What I'm suggesting is that those plastic anchors are designed for moderate lateral loads, ie something hanging from a wall at a 90 deg angle to the anchor. Your loads will be in the moderate range but are straight loads. Used as such, the plastic anchors are probably only good for light loads. |
RE: A clever way to store your airplanes!
Will you please explain me a little bit your post;
There are 3 hooks that share a 5kg weight... The procedure was: Fristly drill the hole, then insert the plastic portions and hammer them to get a snug fit.... Then start screwing the hooks that will eventually force the plastic portions to expand inside the concrete. |
RE: A clever way to store your airplanes!
If the ceiling is concrete, rather than sheet rock then the fasteners will produce much greater resistance to straight on loads and will likely serve as a suitable anchor.
Concrete ceilings are not the norm in the US, as sheet rock is more often the material. It is a composed of a product called gypsum between two layers of paper and is of medium density and strength and unsuitable for such anchors for straight on loading. |
