RE: cutting cowl
Tape a piece of manila folder to the fuse sort of hinged with the tape so that you can flip it back towards the canopy.
Cut out the holes in the manila. Put the cowl on. Flip the folder down and transfer the markings. Dremel with a high speed setting and fine grit sanding disk |

RE: cutting cowl
I now use a method that a flying buddy showed me. Take a piece of clear or semi clear flexible plastic sheet, then I put marks on the cowl and fuslage and on the plastic sheet, that helps to line everything up again. Then take the plastic sheet, align it with the marks you made, You then see where you need to make cut outs. Use a magic marker, outline that area ,cut it out,. test fit the plastic sheet.. Then transfer that to the cowl. It really works great andno botched up cowl.
