RC Project Workbench

I want to get started on a J3 rebuild project and decided I needed to have a good surface to work on first. This bench will have tool storage in the open bays and a few shelves for other things. I put it on locking rollers so I can move it into the wife's open Yoga studio and work where I can enjoy the view. Looks like the back of the tool storage bay will also be a good place to store balsa sheet and spars.
Put together mostly with self tapping wood screws and 1/2 inch S2 plywood and the top comes off the base so I can move it easily. Will add a few electrical outlets and a cord so it will be roll, plug, and play!

Hello,

Nice bench, will copy. I was just getting ready to build a second bench. The only change I'll make is to add a center brace, under the top running length wise, to keep it from cupping.

Thanks,

Rick

That's a good idea and I think I will add that as well. Was hoping to store long items in there but making it stable for the long term is more important. If you are still in the design phases, there are a lot of YouTube videos on ultimate and portable carpenters benches. When I saw some with those open bays, I knew right away it would serve RC building well to keep those hard tools off the building surface.

My workbench is relatively simple. top is 4x8x 3/4" ply on 2x4 frame with upper kitchen cabinets on each end ( KSI scrach & dent saturday morning specials ) on a slightly reduced 3/4" bottom plate on 6 swivel rollers that cam be moved any where in the build room. middle area is storage ( currently future kits ).

Hello,

What I like about your design is you can keep long sheets of balsa and ply under the top and have it handy when you need it. (Sratch builder here.) Heading out tomorrow to pick up the lumber. I'll post when it's finished.

Thanks,

Rick
