Removal of Threadlocker
 

I used red threadlocker to attach the muffler to my ZDZ80 twin. I needed to replace the gasket, so I removed the bolts and took off the muffler, the engine was cool when I did this. When I wanted to put it back on, the bolts won't go in but 1/3 of the way because of (I assume) left over threadlocker inside the engine socket. Any suggestions? Re-tap, heat, chemical removal, pray?

Red threadlocker is made for really bum threads. If you wash the area with MEK, it will harden the threadlocker, and enable you to just pick it away from the surface in little crumbly bits.

I use auto starter fluid to prime the two metals prior to using threadlocker. It degreases and evaporates quickly.

Heat will soften it and you could wipe some of it away or reattach the muffler. I have been told it doesn't work well in muffler situations because the heat does soften it. In glow situations I have proven to myself that it doesn't help. The only glow muffler I lost was when I used the provided gasket. Since then it's been metal to metal, and no thread locker, and I have kept all mufflers.
