How: Fiberglass and Paint
Can anyone point me to a link that discusses how to fiberglass and paint? I going to be building my first war-bird and I'd prefer to paint it rather than a film. I've never done it before so I appreciate all the information I can get.
Thanks!! |

Hi!
It's easy! Just lay out the fiber weave (25g) over one part of the wing (1/4 of the entire wing) and pour or brush out th e24 hour epoxy evenly over the wing. When finnished ...roll a kitchen table papper towel over the wing to soak up as much epoxy you can. That's it! The epoxy you should use is not the hobby type you find in hobby shops instead it should be the professional type 24-30 hour epoxy. Paint I use i 2-part automotive acrylic filler and paint , both these has to be sprayed on. And you use Brown microballons and epoxy for making wing fillets, filling imperfektions and dentshttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2118065http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2118066http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2118067 |

Hi!
The last 40 years I have used a 25 liter compressor and Air-gunsa sprayguns , but I have changed those to a pair of SATA spray guns (German made, top notch). The smaller i called MiniJET, bought new on e-Bay and has a 1mm nozzle and the bigger one (Bought on a flea market for $1.00) has 1,4mm nozzle. I also have some Iwata airbrushes but those are not good for anyhing but painting smaller things. Not large R/C planes. |
Here's a couple of in-depth article for finishing techniques.
