Plastic to Painted WIng Surface
 

Hi Guys,

I have a quick question:

I am gluing in plastic wheel wells for the retract area for the wheels. I marked off the perimeter of the plastic wheel well and I ran a pin thru the covering and balsa every 1/32”nd of an inch so the glue has something to bite into. Also I sanded the under lip of the plastic wheel well.

What glue would you guys recommend using:
1. Slow CA glue
2. Thin CA glue or
3. Epoxy glue 30 mins.

Trying to get a seamless glue joint and using CA may work, but adding Kicker to it will not work well. Kicker will make any CA that oozes out harden up even if you wipe it first and make a bubbly line where the CA oozes out and hits the Kicker. CA on its own may work but I am leaning towards the QC560 or Pacer Tech Hinge Glue. Maybe some Thin CA for one or two of those spots that does not stay down well due to the Plastic not complying to the curve of the wing in spots. Also the Kicker may attack the Plastic wheel well and soften it or deform it a bit.

Epoxy all the way. You can get the piece positioned, and nothing will change when it cures. You can clean excess glue off with a paper towel and alcohol. And you can be confident that the glue will cure all the way through the piece. CA is faster no doubt, but for this application I don't think it's the way to go.
