CA hinges

When inserting CA hinges, is it acceptable to put a pin thru the hinge center line to make sure you get 50% insertion in each side? I don't want to take the chance of them breaking like happened to me once before.

That is the way to do it. You arn't loosing much surface area. Some hinges even have a slot down the middle to wick the glue in better.later daveo

Draw the hinge line on the hinge material with a crayon... both sides. This prevents CA from staying in the hinge line portion of the hiinge... less likely to have hinge failure.

Use thin CA. Medium or thick causes problems with poor bonding and premature hinge failure.

Combine those with the pin to aid in aligning the hinges... works GREAT! You can even use 2 pins, near the ends of the hinge to make sure the crayon line is the hinge line.
