Closest hobby shop is 178 miles. are any of the canned spray paints that you can get at locals stores fuel proof, ie rustolum, krylon, etc..thanks wc

I have heard that Rustolium is but have not tried it. Harder to find but I know it is fuel proof is Polyurethane, Ace Hardware used to carry it, very high gloss and fully fuel proof.

I thought I had it bad when living in northern Michigan about 100 mi. round trip to the LHS.

Rustoleum is fuel proof in red, black, white, yellow up to 15%, thats what I run. Grey is also but you MUST let it cure for at least a week preferably 2 before any fuel touches it. I use it on monocote, solartex, fiberglass, and abs with no troubles at all. Rustoleum yellow is pretty close to monocote yellow (read- not an exact match). But you wont notice the difference after a few years. I had a lot of trouble with lustercoat yellow and had to sand it all down and repainted with rustoleum yellow. Lustercoat had black spots in it. Took it back to the hobby shop and discovered all the cans of yellow had black spots. I've got planes with cowls that are around 8 years old. The paint isnt the problem on those cowls, just extreme usage.

Does anyone know if there is a rustoleum colour that is a good match for monokote "dark red"?

Try Plasti-Kote acrylic lacquer paint available at most auto parts stores. Be sure it says acrylic lacquer on the back else it may be nitrate based lacquer and will not be fuel proof. IMHO it is much better than Rustoleum and faster too. And not expensive the larger size Truck and Van paint is 3.99 for (I think) 12 oz.
