Model Table
 

One of the problems I have when finishing a model is putting it together and getting all the way around and under it. I have a 4 x 8 foot table but that doesn't work too well. Made a stand/table to hold models today and thought I would share it and see if anyone has ideas for improvement. The table is about 4 feet tall and on casters so it can be moved out of the way when not in use. The extensions for the tail wheel and main gear are adjustable so it can hold most 1/4 scale and larger models. I am also putting drawers in the bottom to store more of my modeling 'stuff' (as the wife calls it). Most of the models I build are conventional gear but it could be turned around for trike gear also.

Now I can get all around the model without having to reach over a table.

Nice Table! I might build one like that. Might I suggest using bungees for wheel hold downs, it might help when applying covering at getting that extra pressure on a unit without it moving! Good Luck!

I prefer a 3' X 6' rather than a 4' X 8'. Can get closer too it.

Nice layout Lee! My shop is only 11"x13'6", but is my piece of heaven at home. The door on the floor is the start of my table. It is currently 6'6"x3' but I will need to trim it down to 5'6" by either 36" or 30". Blackie built one while building his workshop and I plan to do mine similar.

I did basical the same as you but I use a tool caddy. It's a ready-made adjustable height table on casters. The can be found in the automotive dept. of your local W-M.

I made a "T" similar to yours as well. The T being attatched across the tray leaves the recess open for tool storage.

I'm building a heavy castered 4'X8' table for general building in my garage, but for finishing work, I have one of the Home Depot extra long Husky toolboxes, and the top is at just the right height to work comfortably on engine & radio installation, covering etc. And since I keep my radios, hardware and building tools in it, it's convenient as all get out. Ball bearing drawer slides allow heavily loaded drawers to still pull easily. $625.00 out the door...I have two and want another.

I made a pedistal stand w/ a cradle that can be tilted/ rolled to one side or the other. Adjustable height. Am able to "swing" the model around or lay it over as needed. Probably only good for up to .60 size models, however...
