interplane struts
Anyone have info on where to find interplane strut construction and attachment techniques. I'd like to add them to an Aeromaster I'm building. "N" struts preferred.
Thanks! |

Harry Higleys book "Bipes" describes in detail various methods of interplane strut attatchment. It is well worth the cost, as are all of his books.

I have it set up where the bottom of the strut is attached with hinges. Then it can be folded down on lower wing when not in use. The other end is attached with sheet metal screws to brass fittings on the upper wing when assembling. The sheet metal screw goes through the fitting and into the hardwood of the strut.
Another technique is to use pieces of nyrod glued into the ends of the struts. The part of the nyrod that sticks out goes into holes in hardwood blocks that are in the wings. You can also use Robart hingepoints at one end so the struts can be folded down. The flying wires (if used) hold everything in place. |

Thanks, guys. Good ideas. Don't know why I didn't think of Higley's book; I have several and will be ordering this one!
