Removing Dried Epoxy from Linoleum Floor?
Greetings All-Knowledgeable Ones!
I was joining wing-halves and didn't notice that I dripped a bunch of 30-minute epoxy on the kitchen floor. The floor is linoleum. To make a long story short, it's been tracked all over and has dried. Does anyone have a remedy? I tried spreading some acetone down and it seemed to help some, but didn't get it all, and left the floor very sticky. I've used rubbing alcohol for when the epoxy is wet, but it doesn't do much when the epoxy is dry. Is there a magic chemical to try? Thanks much! |

Won't it peel up, or did it bond to the floor? If you have a wife or a mother, I am sure one of them is mad. LOL[X(]

Use a heat gun to heat up and soften the epoxy blobs, then peel it off the floor

Nope - no wife or mother lives here - I'm flyin' solo. If there was, no way in Hades would I'd be building planes in the kitchen! ;)
But, I do have a landlord... |

OOps,
Have you considered a nice floor mat to cover the spot? If you try heat and it doesn't work anything I can think of will damage the lino. Good Luck, Colin |

Might be able to use a soldering iron. A heat gun might put to much heat on the surrounding linoleom? Just an idea...

Well, it's not just a spot or two. It was walked on for a looonnnngggg time, and got everywhere. It finally got so bad even a bachelor like me got tired of it.
I tried the acetone and finally found a method that works. Pour liberal amounts of acetone on the area, then scrub with one of those green scrub pads, then (and this is the key) wipe it off IMMEDIATELY with a clean paper towel. Letting it sit for even a few seconds allows a bit of it to dry and feel sticky. It looks pretty good with some work. And I finally cleaned out my garage, so that's where I'll do my "heavy" epoxying in the future. Thank you all for your suggestions! |

I'm surprised you are not in the living room, watching a game, drink in front of you and working on your plane at the same time. I am glad to hear it came off for you. I would suggest using a good wax type of cleaner for the linoleum, so if it were to happen again, it might come up easier.;)

From the work table in my kitchen, I have a dead center view of the big screen in the living room, and cold brewski's are just a few steps away. :D
Thanks again! |
