tracing patterns from plans????

hi what is the best way to trace your plan patterns so as to transfer them to your wood? thank you

More parts

Not the best way, but an old trick was to Xerox copy the parts shown on a plan. Roughly cut them out and place them on the balsa sheets. Using a hot dry iron, rub the image in. Upon removal of the paper all the black lines will show up, enableing you to cut out the part.

I now go the laser cutting route, unless I need just one part.

Just one thought.

Transferring plan parts to wood

That's a good method.

There's also carbon paper. (Do they still make that stuff ?!)

Or, "the hard way". Trace the parts onto paper, tack the paper (lightly) to the wood, and cut them out. Then remove the paper.

If you're going to do this same model again in the future, (not just a one-time deal) it might be worth making some templates "the hard way" onto clear plastic, light ply, formica, or whatever you have laying around that will last for a while. (I always save airfoil templates this way, so I can use them again later.)

tracing patterns from plans????

highflyer353535,

I take my plans to Kinkos and have two full sized copies made. I build on one and use the other for making parts using the method that CoosBayLumber mentioned. This leaves the original plan unused except for reference.
