quick way of cutting plastic

have you ever had cut a piece of plastic with significant size. well then probably know that its no fun to use a dremel for the job. Well today i figured out that a soldiering iron works excellent. It works the best if you get the pistol grip soldiering iron.

I usually use my electric hot knife with an x-acto blade to cut plastic. Works great and the cuts are very precise.

I once used my Dremel jigsaw to cut a thick piece of plastic. What I didn't realize was that the friction heat of the blade was fuzing the plastic together behind the blade so that when I finished the cut I still had a solid piece of plastic. It would not even snap apart along the cut line.

I'm sure you could turn this accident into a new invention, the "Dremmel jigsaw plastic welder".

Depending on the plastic you may try scribing it with sharp ice pic o equivilent...using good straight edge scribing on both sides you may be able to break it easily on the mark...
