Painting Monokote???
 

I ran out of monokote and need some stripes on the bottom of my wings for a somethin' extra. I have the ultrakote paint that matches the color I need the stripes to be (metallic red). Does anyone have any tips? I read up on it on the top flite website, but has anyone tried it? Also, do you think I could do it without primer or with some regular spray primer instead of the top flite stuff?

There was an article in MAN a few months back, maybe jsut over a year, on painting Monokote.

Basically, it needs to be clean, and scuffed. Scuffing it can be done with one of those green emery / pot scrubber pads. And when you paint, many fine layers of the paint. You don't want it to be too thick, as it needs to be flexible, so it'll bend with the covering, and not 'chip off'

No need for primer, at least, don't remeber them talking about it..

I have done this successfully. As dr_wogz states, scuff it up and clean it with acetone then paint away. Here is how mine turned out.

Topshelf, that looks great!

Another method for similar results is teh 'glass method' of joining covering pieces togeter,then laying this 'stitched quilt' onto the airframe. No need to paint..

Yep, that works too. In my particular case, there is fade from white to yellow to dark yellow. Unfortunately the picture does not show that too well.
