Fuel proofing problem
 

I used some clear coat from an auto parts store on the cowl and wheel pants on my plane. Well, after a few flights it is eating away at the clear coat. I have 2 questions.
1. How should I get this clear coat off without damaging the paint underneath?
2. What is a very durable clear coat that is available in a spray can that can hold up to 15% nitro?

Black Baron makes a very good clear coat, But I dont know how your going to get auto clear coat off without damaging your paint. You might try some steel wool in the 600 grit and just ruff up you old and then put on the coveritte clear. That should give you a good Finnish

I used Black Baron many years ago and it turned my white to yellow! I was furious!!! Has it gotten better? (Note, the can said in big bold letters, "Won't Yellow" but in the fine print, it said "Won't Yellow (except on white)".

I had some clear coat turn to sticky goo. I was able to use denatured alcohol to remove the clear without damaging the paint. If you check an automotive paint store, not pep boys or that type of store, I mean a real auto paint store they can put a two part clear in a spray can. This will be NITRO PROOF!!!. I have used it with 30% for 3 years now with no problems. It has not nor will it turn to that ugly yellow.

Now for the down side. The can cost me $12.00 and is only good for 3 days after mixing. After that it hardens inside the can. I have heard that the touch up cans at Pep Boys works up to 10% nitro.
