I just made a few modifications to it... but now the size has incresed in height. It will be in a flatbed truck, with another plane, so i need to save space.

Should I just make a separate rack for the wing... or can a wing+fuse rack work???

The stack method
 

Here is another method I've used. This keeps the width down.
Fuse sits in lower cradle shaped cross members with tail end lower...top wing holder plugs onto top of four legs...wing rests on top held on with bungies or rubber bands.

That is what I have been looking for for a while. I built it the day I saw it. I took some pics, but waiting for them to get developed. It turned out great (at least for me). I made a few mods so it will fit in my Nissan to get to the field. It only took about 30 minutes to come up with and at $10.00 in parts, it is going to work out very well thank you!

RC Universe makes it so easy to attach photos that a lot of people don't realize you can in-line them as well. The catch (I think) is that you have to have a server for the pictures. But assuming you have a web site where you can put the pictures, you can include them in your post inside "img" tags (click "IMG" in the "vBCode" section of "Post Reply".

Note: If you do this, please be kind and resize your photos so they aren't any wider than, say, 600 pixels.

Shop stands and jigs

How about stands or jigs any of you use to support stuff in alignment, in the shop? There are lots of times when something should be rigidly aligned, to be precise with wing incidence, engine thrust lines, etc..

I custom-make mine to hold sub-assemblies, so major pieces of a project can be moved around the shop without disturbing their alignment. I make these "jigs" so that the part is always in alignment with the board it's on, so I just place a level anywhere on it, and it matches the aircraft centerline marks. Here are three photos...

The first one is the parts I typically use to hold something like a fuselage in alignment, up off the building table.

The second one is that stand in use.

The third one is the more typical "el cheapo" foam cradle type.

Some real neat layouts here. I have taken a few ideas from here on some of these. Can someone give me some general guideline dimensions as I would like to build a few for 40 - 60 size planes.

Sorry to reply so late, but dimension wise make sure your plane rack isn't too big. Mine barely fits through the door ways in my shed. I customized my plane rack to specific planes, so I'm not sure if it will fit some other planes I have in mind. That being said, if you wish to create a more 'universal' plane rack use dimensions that will be big or small enough to fit all the planes in your hangar... or those to come :D !

Just want to make one small so I can throw it on my workbench when I am working on the underside, and build one to fit my Field Box from hell for the field. And maybe a bigger stand model for my workshop to stand on the floor. Dunno yet have access to plenty of free PVC pipe so that won't be an issue.

I made some plans for myself when building my plane rack so I had something to go off of. I figure I might as well share them with you guys. Here ya go...

One more thing to add: In the picture of my CG skytiger and wings in the rack you will notice that I made the "fork" in the back of the fuse smaller than the "fork" in the front. I did this so it would eliminate movement of the plane. I did this at the last second, so I didn't incorporate this into the plans.

I designed mine like this because I had already made a plane rack for my Sig LT-40 plane individually. Maybe you guys could modify it in some way to make it hold 2 fuse's and 2 wings? Or you could just make 2 of them with room for 1 wing each.

*Note: Make sure that your wing won't interfere with the stab or fin when on its side. Also make sure that If you wing has LG that they will fit and not interfere with the rest of the rack/plane.

If your going to use one on your workbench you should make an "X" shaped plane stand. You can hold virtually any size aircraft and build them small, so it would be easy to manuever on your workbench. Maybe I can come up with come plans really quick to show you what I mean. Give me a few, I'll come up with something.

Looks pretty easy to me. Will have to give it a try. I have the PVC pipe just need to get the fittings. Will prolly pick them up tomorrow. Due to the fact I don't have this stand I have already broke stabs and fins on a few occasions trying to work on the underside. So I figured it is TIME. :)

The X plane rack!
 

I just drew it up on AutoCAD because I had the time... it only took probably 10 min. I didn't put any dimensions on it, I just wanted to give you an idea of what it looked like. I borrowed this idea from a friend on my, DGrant. The plane rack he came up with, which I call the X plane rack, is really easy to work with and can holds his smaller planes as well as his giant scale planes.
