I use the Auto Zone Dupli-color engine enamel, it is fuel proof. They make
a clear-cote for the enamel as well, and the results are super ! :D

The stuff is cheap, comes out in a nice fan pattern, and drys fast....I'm
sold on it. The only drawback is....it only comes in the basic colors.

RE: another paint question

yeah Ive seen that, might give it a try, was just wondering about the the truck paint, thanks for the reply you think the clear coat will go over the lacquer without bubbling

RE: another paint question

The Auto Zone laquers have their own clearcoat. I just wanted to let
you know about the enamels. :D

RE: another paint question

yeah I know but not sure if the laquer is fuel proof though, if the enamels is just wondered if it would go over the laquer with out any problems

RE: another paint question

Usually putting enamel over laquer, or vice versa, doesn't work. I like
the enamel because it doesn't take a bunch of coats....it's thick, and
worry free. :D

well thought you could use enamel or laquer, but not the opposite might have to do some experimenting, but thanks for your info

sprayed a test piece with, dupli color engine paint let it sit over night, then put raw fuel on it guess what it lifted right up

I just want to put my $0.02 worth in here BEFORE someone messes up.

If the paint is LABLED ACRYLIC LACQUER or ACRYLIC ENAMEL it is fuel proof. If it doesn't say acrylic you are taking a chance on whether or not it is fuel proof. FWIW - I do not suggest/recommend mixing lacquer and enamel paints.

Another possibility you may want to look into is water base polyurethane. I spray 2 coats over my latex paint jobs and I can verify it is good to 10% nitro (all that I use). I have also read several reports that say it is good to 15% nitro.

RE: another paint question

Well, I tried brushed-on water-base poly urethane to seal some seams and stickers; bad mistake. It was nice and clear, though... and progressively more sticky after each flight.[:o]

Dave, this stuff you're talking about from Auto Zone; it is fuel-proof? Perhaps it needs to cure a couple of days?

Do you know how close the red, white, and dark blue comes to corresponding UltraCote colors?

RE: another paint question

Steve....

....the stuff I showed is auto enamel, when it is dry....it is 100% fuel
proof, always has been. ;) I simply prefer the enamals because the
fewer numbet of coats....the less dust particles get into the paint. [sm=thumbup.gif]

I applied three coats of paint, and one clear....20 mins. apart. All light
coats to guard against sagging.

Dave.

Enamel over laquer- O.K.
Laquer over enamel- A royal mess.

Flyboy Dave, how does the Auto Zone clear enamel take to a wet sanding with 1500 or finer and buffing once it's cured?

RE: another paint question

jetmech43, if you liked K&B you must have spray equiment. Therefore, you could always go to your local automotive paint supplier and have him mix you up a quart of whatever color you wish. PPG "Concept" with hardner is very fuel proof.

I haven't tried it, John....but with the paint fully cured, I think you could massage
it admirably....:D
