Making gasket from silicon

I just wanted to know if anybody ever made a gasket for there engine out of silicon. Yes I know there was a post in here on using silicon but I never read anything about the results. I tried the paper gasket but I think the paper was to thin. Please leave detailed info . and thank you for taking the time answer this post.

I like to use a thin piece of tough paper and coat it both sides with a thin coating of silicone and let it dry. The Permatex products are excellent also. Jim

Hi, do you let it dry before installing it or while it is installed ?

The silicone that I buy has a thin cardboard box, so I just cut out a piece of it and coat it with the silicon. I generally let it get tacky before I install it. Thats generally about 10 minutes or so of cure time.

This method also works great around the nipple where the hose goes to the carb. I have had 2 TTpro46 and the both leaked a little aound this spot. I used the cardboard and silicone and it hasnt leaked since.

I have all the materials for my SPAD and the engine and radio gear just arrived as well. I should have one flying by next weekend. Looks like I will be building a debut.

Nice , if you dont have one get an airplane balancer, this is the best investment i have made so far in this hobby . I never thought I would need it but it helps allot.

Good Luck . and start a post on your building technique, the input helps.
