FOAM IDEAS
HERES A WAY TO PROTECT YOUR RECEIVER AND BATTERY PACK INSIDE A PLANE. GO TO YOUR LOCAL WALMART AND BUY MOUSE PADS. THEN CUT THEM UP AND USE THEM TO WRAP YOUR BATTERY AND RECIEVER. IT WORKS FOR ME AND ITS CHEAP TOO.

RE: FOAM IDEAS
Nah.
The foam in mouse pads is too dense. Go to an auto parts store and snag the big sponges - the rectangular blue ones are best. Hollow 'em out, stuff the precious bits inside. Much better shock absorbency than mouse pads. |
RE: FOAM IDEAS
nice tip but how are you getting the pasted on sticker or emblem off the pad ?

RE: FOAM IDEAS
YOUR RIGHT SPONGES WOULD BE BETTER THAN MOUSE PADS, I'M GOING TO TRY EM ON MY NEW TWIST 3D I JUST BUILT. THNAKS FOR THE TIP

RE: FOAM IDEAS
I work for a company that makes seat frames (I run a CNC Router). We also glue the foam to the frame before it goes off to the upholsterers. Theres lots of spare foam from the trimming etc. All different sizes and thicknesses. Its what I use to wrap the rx.
I've done this in lieu of using just velcro (rx sticks to side of fuse). I lost a nice Cessna Skylane because of a fractured xtal because it vibrated so much while velcro'd to the inside fuse wall. I've been using foam ever since. Dave... |
RE: FOAM IDEAS
I've always used sponges, The dollar store variety as well, just chop them up as required.
I can agree, that a mouse pad would work, but as stated, is a little too dence, usually not thick enough (unless you wrap a few times) and is heavier than sponges. |
RE: FOAM IDEAS
I never use open pore foam like is used in sponges or furniture. Closed pore foam has much better shock absorbing properties. I recently found flat pool noodles at K Mart. It is a 6 foot long piece of closed pore foam about 8 inches wide, and maybe 3/4 thick.

RE: FOAM IDEAS
I like the foam that they sell at craft stores. It comes in diferent thicknesses. Alot of times I just cut a slot in it and lide the battery or receiver completely inside. Works great.

RE: FOAM IDEAS
Ever notice the foam that ships with Hitec (at least with the electron) receivers.... It looks just like a piece from a mouse pad? If Hitec uses it I would say the mouse pad idea is a good one.

RE: FOAM IDEAS
I use a foam pipe insulation for hot water pipes - it comes in varoius diameters so you can get your
rx or bat to slip straight inside it. |
RE: FOAM IDEAS
Bubble Wrap!
Light, usually free & won't soak up fuel/oil. The smaller bubbles work better for me. I learned the hard way not to use open cell foam of any type. Dave |
