remove covering
can anyone give me some advise on removing monokote covering from a old airframe
|
RE: remove covering
Use a heat gun to heat it while peeling it off. If any of the old covering stays on,try to remove the clear film over it and
then use paint thinner to remove the adhesive and remaining covering. I am going to recover a Great Planes Extra 300. while removing the covering, the plastic film would come off but the adhesive and top coat of color would remain.Found that heating it helped it come off together. then used paint thinner to remove adhesive and top coat of color.make sure you use the thinner outside or a well ventilated area. |
RE: remove covering
Seems I read somewhere that the adhesive and the color are the same material on Monokote. My memory might not be accurate on that matter but I'm pretty sure that's the way I read it. This would indicate to me that the idea of applying heat to the surface before tearing any part of it off would help in removing the old stuff. I've done a few repairs and it worked for me.
