threading an antennae
 

I was haveing a hard time threading my antennae wire through the plastic tube on my SE. I took a fairly large syringe, loaded it with a little baby powder, attach a short piece of fuel tubing to the syringe and the other end to the plastic tube. injected the powder, and moved the plunger up and down a couple of times to get the excess powder out. reinsert antennae through the tube in less than 5 seconds without a single snag...just wanted to share this idea, I hope that it helps someone.

Great tip! I have had good luck with the cans of air. Insert tube, and tip the can so the freezing liquid will come out. Lubricates the tube, and stiffens the wire to push it through.

nice tip, but why do you use fuel tube ?

I use a piece of 22/4 stranded wire and fish it through the fuse . Then I tape the receiver antenna to the wire and pull it through the tail section.

Another trick is to use a vacuum to suck the antenna (or a string tied to the antenna) through the tube.

That also works well to get a string in, to pull a servo wire thru a wing.

the fuel tube provides a flexible connection between the syringe and antennae tube so that I don't get powder all over the inside of my fuselage. It is only a short piece maybe 1 to 1 1/2" inches in length.

I gotcha , but from what you are describing , it seems as if you use another tube to house the antennae wire. This is the point I was trying figure out why ? Does it serve some purpose to have the antenna running in a tube through the plane vs running it through without the tube ? Thanks.

The aircraft is a Sig Somethin Extra and the antenna tube provides an easy path to the rear of the fuselage and as far as I can tell that is the only function of this tube as far as I can tell.

that tube they use is a small inner control tube.i used a small diameter wire and tape as someone else said here.
