Can basic aerodynamics knowledge help the modeler?

this is my first thread here at rcu, and an attempt to help anyone who wants it. i think that a basic knowledge of aerodynamics can help even the more advanced modelers at the field not to mention the new guys. not to state the obvious but this knowledge can save a crash and take away the "myths" of why a model flies. one thing i have learned in aviation is that preparation is key and it doesnt take long to get the basics of aerodynamics. if anyone wants to talk about it (if this is not too boring) then post-em

The "Aerodynamics" section already has an extensive "basics" thread.

I agree Cleatis123. An understanding of how a plane flies, airplane construction and the forces that are at work during flight as well as how your equipment relates to these properties is a must to become an accomplished RC flier. Too many times crashes are blamed on equipment, mechanical failure or design flaw when the real culprit is pilot error. Many times the pilot unknowingly done something that lead to the equipment or mechanical failure. That is still pilot error. Maybe it was not a "dumb thumbs" cause of the crash but still an avoidable situation. The end result is the same.

Hey Cleatis.

You are correct that knowledge is key. But some information on this site is myth and some is correct. And some information is so esoteric as to be impractical. So, always consider the source of the information.
