RE: Field Stand
I built the stand last week and used it to hold my 4*40 while I installed the servos, engine, etc. I just finished covering it two nights ago, and used the stand to hold it while I applied the decals to the fuselage.
I have been using the stand only in my workshop (spare bedroom) so far, but I know it will be great to take to the field next week when I get a chance to fly. I made some minor changes regarding the bolts and nuts, but it works great just like it is drawn. I only have about $5 in it, as I used 1/4" luan underlayment plywood, and I had a 1" x 8" x 8' board of poplar in my shop already from another project. I also had some wood stain and some polyurethane on hand so it all turned out great. I highly reccommend this for anyone. |

Greg thanks for the plans, yeah it was a year ago when you send them to me but I just had to thank you once more… these stands are brilliant!!! Actually so brilliant so I made few… also I drawn 3D assembly of the stand using solidworks…If you need files just pm me…I could make exploded view and stuff so it would be easier to make stands than just looking into 2D sketch… pictures…

RE: Field Stand
Take a look at this. It is posted in the AMA web site resale items. It a commercial ad, but has a good price and guarantee. Don't have one myself, so I can't say anything good or bad about it.

RE: Field Stand
Our club built about 10 Safety Starting Stands a couple of years ago. They are fantastic. The free plans are at www.meroke.com, a club in Long Island NY. I first saw the plans in Model Aviation Magazine a few years ago.

RE: Field Stand
The free plans are at www.meroke.com . Somehow a comma sneaked in at the end and the link would not work. It is worth checking out. I suggest the moderator make this a sticky and give all of the credit to that club. I am only a messenger.

I finished my stand on Thursday night just before the Western Canadian Pattern Championship in Edmonton last weekend. The photo shows the stand holding my 10 year old son's Matrix. It was his first pattern contest.
The stand was made from pine which my wonderful wife decided to stain and varnish for me. I wonder how I ever got by without it for all these years. Thanks Greg for the plans Walter |

Hi akpilot. Here is a stand I built out of PVC. The total cost was around $18.00. Very easy to do. About two hours build time (my retirees schedule) About 45 min. if you are still working. The four base pieces are not glued so I can remove them for transporting. I simply pull them out of the couplings. I used 3/4" for everything but the base and that is 1", but I strongly recommend building entirely out of 1". I am sure with a little improvising you could come up with a little work and parts table that attaches to it. I am next going to build a table cradle for my workbench. It will also be PVC. Great stuff. Lightweight, cheap, and sturdy. Actually PVC does have other uses besides making a potato cannon!! Take care. Mike

RE: Field Stand
I read in an earlier post that someone had converted Greg Finan's field stand plans to a PDF file. Since his email address isn't working any more, I was wondering if anyone reading this has his plans in PDF format and could send them to me in an email. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jon B [email protected] |
RE: Field Stand
Dido on that request! I cannot get the file to download from the website. It seems to be corrupted. If someone could send me a copy I would greatly appreciate it.
