Over ream your prop?
 

I had a nice Master Airscrew 14" prop I wanted to use on my Saito 80 4s. I apparently used the wrong sized reamer and wound up with a 'sloppy' fit at the rear of the prop. I bought a Top Flite wood-that's all the local shop had- and tried it. The hub is very small compared to the Master, plus a very lightweight prop by comparison. I took a piece of K & S brass tube I had that just fit the engine shaft, cut off a piece about 1/4" long and 'press' fit it into the rear of the Master prop-a perfect fit! The Master has a very meaty hub, and provides more backing for the Higley brass safety nut I use.

That'll work! I have wrapped electrical tape around the prop shaft when the hole was too big.

I HAVE ALSO USED THE BRASS TUBES ON A LOT OF MY PROPS- TAKEING ONE OFF TO GO TO ANOTHER ENGINE AND NEVER HAD A PROBLUM WITH VIBRATION OR MOVEMENT, WORKS VERY WELL- THEY SHOULD SELL A BAG OF DIFFERENT SIZES FOR US TO HAVE ON HAND..

Actually, I've used several pieces of brass tube-one inside the other- on props I've reamed for one engine and decided to switch. Especially helpful on some of the expensive 3 bladed props which otherwise would be scrap.

I'LL HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT, I HAVE A SELECTION OF DIFFERENT SIZES-- (THATS A GREAT IDEA), I HAVEN'T HAD TO USE MORE THEN ONE TO SNUG UP THE FIT- BUT NOW I COULD CHANGE TO SOME DIFFERENT SIZES AND PICHES TO SOME OF MY BIGER ENGINES.

wsmalley, in case you didnt know saitos have to be reamed with a metric reamer. If you use a standard reamer maybe thats why the whole came out too big.

Plastic soda straws also work-cut off a short section, slit lengthwise and slip over shaft. Add another if needed rotating the slits opposite each other. As long as prop is centered when you tighten the prop nut-you are good to go-within reason-I have never used more than 2 sections. Brass tubing may be a better long term fix but this works in a pinch.

I like the tubing idea, hadn't considered it. I keep a roll of teflon pipe joint tape in my flight box, and wrap the prop shaft with it if my prop is loose. It works like the electrical tape idea, but it is much thinner, and doesn't have adhesive on it. Usually takes a half dozen wraps to get a snug fit. If it gets in the threads and you screw the nut over it, it will also help keep the prop nut tight.
