CG problem

I have a C.G. problem with my Tiger 40 and need to balance it. Its actually much more tail heavy and needs lots of nose weight to balance... but I don't want to add that much weight... :(

So is there any other way to compensate this... any suggestions.

Can you shift the battery back, like behind the servos, even behind the wing? Cheapest (weight-wise) way of doing it.

Jer, weight needs to go forward.

Easymoney, if moving the battery as far forward as you can doesn't fix it you have a couple of options. A larger (1400+ mah pack). A weighted spinner-nut if you can live without a standard spinner. Higley makes one thats 4 ounces and great Planes makes one thats 2 or 2 1/2 ounces. Or, bite the bullet and pack some lead :D .

Some of the weighted spinner nuts can also be hidden behind a spinner. :) Greg

Now why didn't I think of that? :bananahea

Just a note...

Ya know how a tail heavy plane can't fly?

Ever see a plane lose it's spinner, prop nut, and prop in mid-flight?

I wouldn't want to lose all that weight (prop, nut, spinner) from the nose, PLUS all of my nose weights in one fell swoop.

I'll stick to gluing weights in my tank compartment.

The battery is already shifted maximum forward, behind the wirewall... under the tank. I have experimented that it requires almost 1/2kg weight under the tank to balance...
So should I throw this much weight and fly...

Easymoney,

If I remember right 1/2 kg is equal to about 1.1 pounds. This amount does sound excessive for a Tiger 40. Double check that you are balancing the plane at the right CG. If it is right however, you will have to add whatever weight it requires. As stated above, the further forward that you can get the weight the less it will take.

Greetings Easymoney: Is your engine as far forward on the mount as possible? Does your nickname hold water? If so buy a bigger badder engine. :D I had a Saito 91 on my Tiger 2, I wound up putting the elev. and rudd. servos in the tail, but this plane ROCKED AND ROLLED. Shame my thumbs didn't on that fateful day. But rest assured I will rebuild it again (3rd) times a charm. I LIKE THIS PLANE. Always happy to help if I can. Garry

is there any way to shift the fire wall forward...?

Hey Easymoney: I have moved them back, so I don't see why you couldn't move it forward. One other option would be to try longer motor mounts. Or go with hardwood mounts, that extend about 2 formers back into the fuse and as long as you want in front of the firewall. I still like the idea of a bigger badder motor. :D :D :D Always glad to help if I can. Garry

That is how I solved this problem. I bought a 2000 MA Nicd , a battery holder from Radio shack and made my own glow driver. This extra weight solve the ballace problem and my engine runs like a dream You can count the prop spins as it idles and never has quit in the air, now why you want stick weight in the spinner

Mike B

You are right, something doesn't sound right with the amount of weight required. You are more than welcome to the wrench.
