How to iron 2nd layer of monocoque w/o bubbles
 

I always have problem with some little air bubbles trapped between the 2 layers when I tried to iron a 2nd layer Monocote or UltraCote on top of the other. Can someone show me how to avoid that? Thank you,

I've had success using a liquid laundry detergent mixed about 50-50 with water. Sponge it over the area you want to cover, position the trim piece, then squegee the access liquid out and let it dry. Should be no air bubbles. When dry I seal the edges with a trim iron.

With Monokote, it's easy. Just use Top-Flite "Trim Solvent" instead of heat. Acetone will work too, but it's more agressive than Trim Solvent, and gives you less time to work.

Neither works on Ultracote :(

For Ultracote, I don't usually have a problem with small or narrow pieces, but for larger pieces I will either remove some of the covering underneath, or poke bazillions of holes in the underlayer to let the air out.

I've had very good luck with layering Ultracoat. The trick (for me at least) is to use the coolest iron setting possible to activate the adhesive and then work SLOWLY.

I've never had any luck ironing Momocote over anything, but wood.

Try checking out some of Faye Stilley's (sp?) writings; he's the iron on guru.

Oops, one more thing: use a trim iron, not a standard iron.

With Monokote use blue windex. Sparay it on, position the piece, squeegee out the excess , blot dry and let sit for 24 hours.

Unfortunately, this does not work for Ultracote. What I have found id to start in the middle of the piece and work towards the outer edges. Use a trim iron and set the temperature a little higher than you normally would for Ultracote. The few bubbles that do show up can be removed by *****ing one END of the bubble with a small "T" pin and ironing towards the hole.
