Tip for vintage planes
 

I knew some day moms scissors would serve me a purpose...lol
I used a sewing scissor with zig zag cutting edge on my covering and it gives a look of stitching without alot of work. I bet if i were to get fancy and put two opossing edges together it may even be more convincing. But anyways it seem to work well.

They are "pinking shears", and the zig-zag edge they produce is called "pinked".

Dunno why.

On older (fabric covered) aircraft where the fabric was stitched to the structure, the rows of stitches were covered with pinked tape.

If you want to be correct use a narrow strip of covering pinked on both edges. You do neet to figure out how wide the pinked tape was on the 1:1.

If you happen to have a 1/3 scale model, [link=http://www.sallybeauty.com/shop/2230/730895]hair setting tape (!) [/link]works quite nicely.

It is nice to see that old techniques never die!!! I remember seeing that in model mags 30+ years ago. I did the same thing on a couple of planes using silk-span..

sorry if I take a while to get back,Your right,Mr.Plumber I did make strips for the verticle seams and thats where it looks the best. Mr Iaclmac you mean this old tecnique ha....lol ,glad I didnt run to the patent office.
I was thinking mabey there are outher patern scissors out there,that might be good for designs.
like a wavey patern or better yet they should invent flame scissors...lol I laugh now but whatch in a while someone will make these and collect on my Idea. I sent for one of those inventers kits and after they told me the catch "send 600.00 to get started...lol" that was the end of that idea.Anyways later on I seen some thing on TV that was very simular to my idea. Ive always wished there was a way to sell just the idea,But they would be a dime a dozen..lol My Idea was to make air pillows that ajust in furmness but feel like a regular pillow,cause im sick of my stack of 5 flat pillows.Next thing I see is the bed that has the same idea.
I dont know if they borrowed on my idea,but it was a coincedence 5 months later the first beds came out.
Its to bad takes so much money to patent an idea,then more to start a proto type. I have a few model Ideas that I would like to produce and its accessorys for airplanes. anouther example of my short commings is ;I thought of making a dyno for rc cars with a read out of torque and rpms on digital meters.
some one there beat me to it,now theres one on Towers list of MFG's So even if you think of something good to make,I guess you can get squashed by someone who has the means to protect their Idea.
My dyno would have been better than the one offered there.I was goning use heavy urathane coated rollers on bearings and a digital computer read out. But the guys shape of his is exsactly what I was thinking of.I called a roller shop" machine shop actually" and the guy there asked me what my application would be for? I wounder if this guys involved with the one thats out there now. OH well...lol

Im dicovering new Tips each day,I wanted to make this a seperate Tip ,But I feel that if there's a recent new tip posted,I dont want to squash it with my tip.So its the same plane anyways.I found a good way to make a cheap turn buckle out of jewlry stuff found at our local rag shop craft store.
These Items intended for making home made jewlry also worked for my rigging on my Bipe.
Here are the pics of what im explaining. Turn buckles and eye bolts.I use the cut off portion of the eyes to make the clip that goes to the turnbuckle, The turn buckles actuallly function.
anouther good tip,I save parts from my gransons broken toys,which seems to never ending..lol
I made the crank wheel in the cocpit out of a 99 cent store toy bike,those ones that have a rubber band around the sprocket. This is a guillows SE5A and my enjoyment is to see how complicated I can make it look. But I want to get a big piper for summer hope fully.
