RCU Forums - Servo Cover

On several of my planes I have tail mounted servos and it was always a problem if a servo was mounted on the exhaust side. The servo would get drenched in oil. This oil will eventually migrate into the servo. For several years I have been using a technique that will help this problem. I go find a plastic spoon (usually at Wally World) of the appropriate size and cut off the tip end about halfway. Then I will sand it down on my belt sander until it just fits over the leading half of the servo. I paint it to match the plane and mount it over the servo. I usually use canopy glue but I think that clear silicone would also work. You want to mount it so that the servo arm is not interfered with. This will cover two of the servo mounting screws but if you want to remove it just slip a thin piece of wire or fishing line under it and it will cut through the adhesive (if you don't use epoxy or ca). This addition will keep almost all of the exhaust oil off of the servo and will hardly be noticable on the fuselage. The spoons I find are of the larger size found in the kitchen wares dept and usually cost me about fifty cents.
