Non-Latex Gloves
 

Maybe this is so simple everyone already does it...

I've been in the workshop the last few days, and it occurred to me I'd never heard any mention of my upcoming tip online, so at the risk of telling you what you already know, here it is:

My tip of the day is to use non-latex powder free exam gloves while building. These are the same gloves Nurses and Doctors use every day. You can buy a box for about $10, and they will last you quite a while. They are non-allergenic, so anyone can use them.

CA and epoxy dont get on your fingers anymore.
No more paint on your hands.
No more fingerprints on that new covering job, cowl, or canopy.
Great when applying graphics, because you know you'll get 100% stick everytime.
No more messy fuel residue on your hands while cleaning your airplane, or doing maintenance.
No loss of feel, touch, or dexterity while building.

Give it a try... The first time you try them, you'll have to have them in the workshop from that point on.

No, these are DigitCare DermaLux non-latex powder free exam gloves. Feels like you're working with your bare hands.

"Nitrile" is a type of synthetic rubber, not a brand name. I had another type of exam gloves that didn't like my CA Kicker. Thats why I asked. Nitrile doesn't seem to be affected.

I think the Nitril gloves are green in color and they are much more tollerant of the glues and paints we use on our models. Every modeler out there should be using them. The long term exposure to any of these chemicals have very bad health effects.

Where can you get these gloves
 

I would be interested where to find a bulk box of these.

I'm not sure about the Nitrile gloves, never used those. I get mine from my wife who's a Nurse. I think she either gets them from a local medical supply store, or orders them through a medical supply catalog.

I'm sure you could do a search for DigitCare or Nitrile, and come up with some online retailers.

OSHA has really cracked down on the Automotive industry about the use of gloves for people involved in the trade. Most first line auto parts store stock the gloves now. A box is about 8 to 10 dollars and you get fifty pair in the box. A box should last a good long time and like I said in a previous post with the danger that the chemicals, glues and paints we use subjects us to, every modeler out there should be wearing them. You see articles in the magazines all the time about people that have become toxic due to the absorbtion of these chemicals through their skin. The gloves prevent a great deal of the exposure. Cheap protection from some really bad stuff.
