Is it ok to use light machinery lubricating oil as after run? What is the best way to clean the outside of the engine without dismantelling?

ORIGINAL: siddarthgrewal Is it ok to use light machinery lubricating oil as after run? >Marvel Mystery Oil OR air tool oil work fine as an afterrun oil. RE: engine cleaning
will carb cleaner spray affect the plastic components, wiring and rubber material?
|
RE: engine cleaning
The carb cleaner SHOULDN"T affect these parts. If you think about it, most carbs on vehicles have some or all of these items and there is usually no problem. The cleaner is usually not on there very long and you will be flushing the residue off (at least on a model engine [sm=tongue.gif] )

RE: engine cleaning
If you go with all synthetic oil in your fuel, no clean up is necessary.

Mufflers and such can be put in an old crockpot and set on low over night with ethelene glycol anti freeze and will come out looking brand new.
Don't breathe the fumes and don't cook food in it again but I got one at a yard sale for less than 5 bucks. |

Hi There,
I'm in Australia & I mix equal parts of Air tool Oil with Auto transmission fluid ( ATF ), keep it in an old sewing machine oil container. the type with a spout, works a treat, the ATF repels any moisture & the Air tool oil give the lubrication required for your bearings when starting up the next time you fly. RE: engine cleaning
Hi
I found an excellent substitute and that is WD-40 at my local hardware shop. Man it works wonders. My only concern is that it should not effect the Oil Seals. But after one spray the prop turns to and fro as if there is no friction inside the engine. Try it out!! to clean the outside I just heat some engine coolant (anti-freeze). Taking care not to smell the fumes and just use an old toothbrush to clean the engine. I also seal the carb. Just 15 to 20 Mins and the engine is sparkling clean. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT USE CAUSTIC SODA. JUST TO TRY IT OUT I USED IT ON A SMALL LITTLE PORTION UNDER THE MUFFLER. INITIALLY THE GREASE JUST MELTED AWAY BUT AFTER 5 MINS I REALISED THAT IT TURNED DARK GREY. Siddy OUT............... |
