Monokote Paints
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions to match monokote film colors but not use lusterkote paint. Am tring to paint two cowls and have only used the primer and it comes out of the can very blotchy. Have spent alot of time on these two planes and would like to do a good job on the cowls. These paint cans are not helping!! Is there another manufacturer that matches as good but puts their paint in better aerosal cans?

Try this faceman.

I place my lustrecoat cans on top of a radiant heater until warm. About 1/2 hour. This helps alot when spraying lustrekote.

I think some of the problem with Lusterkote spray is due to actual paint type, not the can. Warming the cans will help some but they still spit.
I just used some PPG paint for the first time last week. I had the dealer scan my monokote samples and they were able to match the monokote colors just fine and the finish is automotive quality. I'll never use lusterkote again. |

Don't waste your time on Lusterkote. I have never had one match. not even close. Go to your auto parts store that mixes paint. Take a piece of balsa with the color of monokote on it. Have them make up a can of matching paint. I do that and they put it in a rattle can for me and it matches perfectly! Never a miss. Costs me about $12 a can. Well worth it. My G202 with Lusterkote cowel is so far off, it doesn't even look like the tried to get close.

Radio South sells PPG colors in small quantities. I just got done using it for the first time and it was a great experience. The true red, deep blue and yellow were perfect matches.

Are the automotive paints fuelproof or is there a special auto paint that I should get? This would work good for me as I have a PPG paint mixing shop about 2 miles from my house!!
