Reshrinking old Monokote

Searched the threads but didn't see anything on this. I've got a plane that's roughly 15 yrs old and been hanging from the ceiling for at least 10. The Monokote has begun to bubble up in some places and I'd like your suggestions on reshrinking it back. Will this even work? Thanks, ........Chris

Shrinkage

Hard to say, as I'm sure you tried a heat gun or iron?

Time, as we all know kills. If the aforementioned didn't do the trick, then you need to pull it off, but before you do, crank the heater up a notch and try again.

Reshrinking old Monokote

Chris,

I've had good luck re-shrinking 20+ year old monokote, however, it has a tendency to become brittle. Care should be taken, especially, when working with open bay areas of wings. It should re-tighten, but it'll also be more prone to punctures as it is less plyable. This is not as critical when monokote is over solid balsa.
Don't be afraid to use a very high heat, just don't linger on any one area too long.

Reshrinking old Monokote

I haven't tried to reshrink yet. I wanted to get opinions first before I did anything that could ruin it. Luckily, most of the areas affected are on sheeted parts, so it sounds like this is doable. Thank's, .......Chris
