Hinge advice

I'm finishing a Kadet Sr. and I have a problem with the hinges I used. I installed GP pinned hinges and glued them with CA as they suggest. I have one aileron servo moving both surfaces and the glue wicked into the pins on the hinges. They are so stiff that the one servo is having trouble moving the ailerons. I have removed the hinges, but now I am wondering how to hinge them and keep the movement as free as possible. Should I go to CA hinges? I have never used them and I am wondering how stiff they are after filling them with CA. (I am trying to avoid the old epoxy route if possible.)
Thanks for your advice.

Cut new slots beside the old hinge slots and use the CA hinges. When you cut the slots for the CA hinges you only need the thickness of a #11 exacto blade. install your hinges and control surface and put two drops of THIN CA on each side of each hinge.

The CA hinges are stiffer than a properly glued pin type hinge but they are free enough that they don't cause any problems.

I agree with IFly Use the CA hinges. Just make sure aht you keep a close eye on the hinges because they tend to break after repeated use, flexing of control surface. I have had them brake in as little as 3 months with flying everyday.

Thanks for the help!

I took your advice and tried the CA hinges. I got the Sonic Tronic ones with the slot in the middle to help it wick in better. I can't believe how much easier these are to put in! I did a test with one on some scrap and I couldn't pull them apart no matter how hard I tried. I was convinced. I have redone all of the hinges except the ailerons. I am also very pleased with how easily the surfaces move.

Thanks a lot!

Hinges

The next time you use pinned hinges, try this trick. Cut a slot in wax paper the width of your hinges. Then slide the wax paper up to the pin hinge line. Now when you apply epoxie or what ever, it wont get in the hinges.

Or you could also coat the pin and area with vaseline. It's kinda gooey but epoxy or even ca will not stick to it.

Yup... or Teflon "lube" which works even better. :-)
