Im running two test right now on a couple of my planes. Im sick of all the cleaning after a day of flying. So whats the secret. RAIN X and Turtle wax. After flying all day with my glow engines I can now take a dry paper towel and just wipe the plane clean. The RAIN X seems to be working the best. The oily mess just slides right off the plane. The one with Turtle wax does almost as good. Definatly a time saver for those that like to squeeze in one more flight. Just soak a paper towel with RAIN X wipe the plane down before the first flight and no more mess. Works great.:D

Hmm, wipe it down first with one product so you don't need to use a cheaper product later?

That's sort of like adding "911" to your phone's speed dial so you only have to hit "#64"

Just add an exhaust deflector, or better yet, switch to 4-strokes.

I would also like to know if there is any long term exposure problems. If there is an affect I would expect it to show at the seams or when a repair is made. I guess you could use a scap and but some RainX on the adhesive side and watch it sitting on it for awhile.

So far I've been useing it for a month and notice no discoloration or anything to any of the covering. I only apply it once a week and could probably go longer. Like I said still testing it. But it makes clean up alot easier at the end of the day.

One of these days he will be flying it around and the monokote will turn to dust exposing every piece of wood. All because of rainX.

nah I'm more prone to think long term exposure to rain x might cause cancer. I can think of nothing more troublesome than balsa tumors

I think the state of California requires that notice on everything that can be swallowed and touch regardless of what the purpose of the item. I think they should label their politicians and officials with: "This person may be a major cause or carrier of advance stupidity." :):D

You might want to try Plexus. It’s a cleaner and protectant made especially for plastics like Monokote. I tried it once on half of my plane just to see and it made the clean-up a bit easier, just not enough to justify the continued use – in my opinion.

By the way, those of us living in the beautiful People’s Republic of California appreciate hearing the opinions of those living in some of the backwards states from time to time. Thank you for your words of encouragement. It’s nice to know that our efforts aren’t going unheeded. Maybe if we can just get some of those other backyards states to turn around their thinking we could all be living into our 90’s.:D

I use the premix RainX windshield wash to clean the plane. With the exception of my 91 2 stroke which is a leaky pig, (not much really helps) this works really well. I have been using it for at least 3 years now, the only thing I notice is that the bugs clean off much easier. No discoloration or separation of the seams.

I use PAM cooking spray before I fly, and the oil and bugs just slide off. A bio-degradable recycled paper towel works just fine. Tried the PAM on my van's windshuield, but it streaked a bit when I used the wipers......[sm=tongue_smile.gif]

umm isnt that kidna like putting oil so the oil wont stick? dont you ahve to clean the pam off??

Hey all those warning labels come in handy. Now I don't have to waste time and energy thinking and taking care of myself. Plus, if I actually manage to do something stupid, it's not my fault. Even if it was my decision.

Now, I'm going to put some rain-x on my airplane. In th process, I may drink some. If I get sick, I will sue the manufacturer because they didn't specifically say I couldn't drink it or if they did, it wasn't prominent enough. It all makes perfect sense.

Seriously though, I may try the rain-x. I doubt it will hurt a thing.

i once buffed an airplane with some old auto wax one time, it shined the entire year and also thought the clean up is a bit easier. so before each flying season i buff every airplane im going to fly. in my opinion anything helps with 2 stroke oil.

I heard that using Pledge spray wax also works well and if you use Lemon Pledge it smells good....

I use it too! I notice if I use it all the time I get that funky wax build up... so I use "Pledge" once a month. The "Windex" breaks down the wax after a while... I hate those wax streeks I get after clean up. So I use it in moderation.
