threadlock plastic compatible
Is the Pacer Z42 compatible with plastics? The "green" Loctite threadlock seems to be the type recommended but it's not easily obtainable in hardware and hobby stores. Any other recommendations ? Tks

RE: threadlock plastic compatible
....use the regular blue thread-locker, available everywhere. ;)

RE: threadlock plastic compatible
I could be mistaken but,,,,,,,,,,I was under the impression that thread locker was not needed on the plastic/nylon bolts. I thought if they were tightend right the stretch in the bolt kept it from backing out. Maybe I have been lucky but I have never used loc-tite and never had one get loose.
I use them in landing gear and for cowl bolts all the time. David |
RE: threadlock plastic compatible
Blue thread lock should only be used on metal to metal. It is very aggresive towards certain plastics and will make them brittle.
You dont need thread locker on self tapping plastic, if you really feel the need you can put a small dab of medium ca on the screw but unless you've over torqued the screw and stripped the plastic you are threading into there really isn't often a need. We dont use thread lock on helicopters with self tapping screws going into plastic and not much vibrates worse than these things. |

I don't use anything on plastic bolts and have never had anything come loose. If extra protection were necessary I would use a dab of Tiebond.

I have also used a little silicone to keep things from backing. Its not aggressive at all to plastics.
