I build on glass and just mix right on the surface and scrape off the leftovers.

For mixing epoxy, I use a small writing pad that is for taking phone messages. Just tear off the used sheet and throw/toss it in the garbage/trash/bin.

I do the same thing with 6 oz yogurt cup lids. I've saved over a 100 of them. But I'll use one over and over by letting the epoxy cure, then peel it right off. However, the yougurt we buy now comes without the lid, just a foil seal. Something about be enviromentally friendly.

I use phone message notes (3x5)-taken from my secretary- cheap and dollar tree has popcicle sticks and toothpicks for a buck. Mixing more-use those fruit containers with the peel off lids.

I also use condiment cups from big lots 2 dollars for 250 and a box of popsicles stick's from the hobbie shop, 500 for three bucks. a roll of 2" wide masking tape works good to...

Mixing on paper is not a good idea or anything that can asorb the chemicals in the epoxy. Same goes for body filler or any 2 part mix.

Have you ever seen those 3x3 Post-It notes that come in a stack about 5 inches high? That's what I use. Before that, I was using old AMA magazines.

Old photographs.. the 4x6 size..
Mark two circles using a coin.. dime, quarter, or bottom of a bottle cap, pill bottle, or container.
One for part 1, one for part 2. Fill equally, mix, use, toss.

I go to our local Sam's club around noon and get the used sample cups they give samples of food in (condiment cups?) It embarasses my wife when I ask the vendors if I may go thru their trash cans, but they are happy to let me have all I want. I carry a plastic grocery bag in my pocket when I go in and leave my wife to shop while I scavenge!

ketchup paper cups from the burger joint. mix with an old flat blade pocket size screw driver that wipes or scrapes off easy. its flat and works as a spatula for fine placement.

I've been using the clear plastic liquid laundry detergent measuring cups and whatever scrap wood is laying around..
Just throw the stick in the cup when finished.. the epoxy will cure and toy can pull it out with the stick..

re use them over and over again.

Margarine tub lids also work great and can be reused.

We had some vinyl flooring left over after we built our house years ago so I have a few bits cut to 10cm x 10cm once the epoxy drys I flex the vinyl and the dried glue peels off.

The plastic caps on Powerade bottles make good mixing cups for epoxy/polyester resin, filler and paint

Old magazines are great for thicker resins....doesnt have to be your RC mags, use your significant other's magazines for this...great for funneling resin into tight places and easy to squeegee off excess....when the resin cures, turn the page or tear it out....talk about getting your money's worth....Ive got the same magazine since 1999, about to turn to page 33 to mix some more on it....

Here is what I do. I seem to get a large amount of junk mail. Most of it has a pre-paid postage of some sort. I just mix up my glue on one of the enclosed documents. Then when I'm done I put the document back inside the ( included) pre-paid envolope and send it back to whoever. It saves me space in my trash can and maybe.just maybe it will get my name removed form someone's mailing list.
But if that happens then I use paper plates.

I use the rubber caps of the 5 gal water bottles that we use in the office, I get about 2 a week, I just have to drink more.... water that is..

I operated a small gunsmithing business for 15 years. One of the things that is used on almost a daily basis is epoxy in small batches. For pillar bedding stocks, regular bedding, stock repairs, barrel sleeving, and the list goes on and on.

With it used so much, a need was made for a decent mixing pad with tear out sheets. A company by the name of Brownells, the largest gunsmithing supply company in the world, produced the perfect item. No bleed through, and attached on two sides so the page will not slide around while mixing. Use it once and you will never use scrap paper again. I still use them for my epoxy needs when modeling. (and my guns!)

I cut up cardboard cereal boxes into small squares with scissors. It's quicker than it sounds and provides a stiff shiny (impenetrable) surface that can be discarded after use. Because I build 1/24 plastic cars as well as R/C planes I often cut the card into small and large sizes. I prefer flat sided toothpicks for stirring and application. I once used scrap balsa but found it to weak and brittle.

Who would have thought there would be so much response on this thread?
