Strut attachment
 

I'm currently putting together a Senior Telemaster. The directions are abysmal, almost unuseable. I need a tip in attaching the struts. It is evident where the supplied wooden struts should attach to the wing and fuselage, the question is how? No hardware was supplied nor information given. They must unattach for transport. Anyone with an ides?

I do the following:

Take a piece of 3/32" or 1/8" wire about 2" long and solder a ring terminal on one end (an 8-10 stud ring terminal is just right for a 4-40 bolt). The wire is then (in your case) inserted into a drilled hole in the MAIN strut and epoxied in place. In the fuselage put a blind nut in the appropriate position, then use a 4-40 bolt to secure the strut to the fuselage. Do the same thing for the other end of the struts where they attach to the wing.

I normally use K&S streamline tubing for my struts and JB Weld the wires with the ring terminals in the end of tube. I also fasten the joint where the 2 struts meet with JB Weld. It takes some sanding/filing to get the joint smooth, but the end result is a strut that is very light in weight and quite strong.

I feel your pain. I had mine sitting on a counter in the kitchen for a month so I could study the pieces till I decided how to proceed. Mine is set up so the wing halves fasten together with a 4-40 wing bolt........and the wing bolts on the fuselage rather than being held on with rubber bands and there is a glider release behind the wing.

Now to the struts.......this is what I did. Kote the wood strut material with Balsarite.....cover with the supplied covering. I found some thin stainless steel material 1/2" wide at the LHS. I cut 4 pieces 2" long and used 2-56 bolts to fasten one to each end of the strut with about 1" extending past the end of the strut. Now you can place the wing on the fuselage and position the strut under the wing.....bend the stainless steel so it lays flush under the wing on the hard point and the other end flush under the fuselage behind the gear on the hard point. When you are comfortable with the fit, drill a 4-40 hole in each stainless steel end piece..........put the strut back under the wing and up against the fuselage and mark where your holes lay. Drill your wing and fuselage hard points and glue/screw in a 4-40 threaded insert. Repeat for the other side and you've got it......
Fasten the strut to the wing and fuselage with two 4-40 bolts per side.
Very strong, very secure.....and it doesn't look half bad.

I have a senior telemaster with no struts.That way when I bought it..............
