header extension
I am putting together a 72"Yak 54. It is being powered by a Saito 120FS. I am doing a inverted installation. Here is my problem: the standard header on the Saito 120 is a rather short 22 1/2 degree bend to which the muffler screws onto. The muffler entrance (female threads) is also on an angle. So, when one screws the header in, the header makes a rather large arc and in doing so, collides with the cowling. It is also too short to clear the cowling and thus, the muffler will not screw on without hitting the cowling as well.
Need: longer header that extends beyond the cowling that can rotate without obstruction. Question: where does one find a header about 1" or so longer than the stock header...if indeed such an animal exists. I understand that Saito makes a flex header for about $50. There has to be a more simple way. I suspect I could find a machine shop to fashion a header with metric threadidng, but that also could be $$$. All ideas acccepted. Tim in Tacoma |
