glue for foam to foam bond
I have been searching alot of post for foam glue. However most discuss glues used for sheeting foam wings. What would be the best for a foam to foam joint, such as in the repair of a foam wing. Hysol, gorilla, sumo etc....?
Thanks |

Take a look here: http://www.ontarioadhesives.ca/3.html about 1/3 of the way down. It's called Foam2Foam, thick tacky contact cement dries clear. I ripped the tail off my parkzone spitfire after having a close encounter with a Hazelnut tree. I glued it back on, other than the visual indication , you couldn't tell had been broken off. Tough stuff!! but still has SOME flexibility to it.

Gorilla glue is the best glue I've found for foam repairs. Use it sparingly, spritz it with water, and make sure the joint is taped together tightly. The gorilla glue will expand into the surrounding foam. The joint will be stronger than the rest of the foam.

You can also use the gorilla glue for filling up missing chunks in a foam plane. just put a small amount in a mixing cup, along with a drop of water, mix it up and wait a minute. When it starts to foam up, put a small amount into the void you want to fill, and try to orient it so its either straight up or down. (that way the forming foam blob doesn't pour to one side) When its mostly hard, but not quite dry, it can be easily shaped with an exacto knife.
(Note: I haven't actually done this with gorilla, but with the Elmers poly glue, which is pretty much the same, though doesn't foam as much, I believe) |

I'd use polyurethane or Hysol 9462. I'd probably lean toward the polly unless the foaming will be a problem, then I'd use Hysol. I'd also use Hysol if the repair is critical, like a control horn, hold down, etc.

Elmers glue! Simple to use and cheap.

Epoxi will work but the weight increase will be noticeable.
I vote for polyurethane. Just do not forget to make some trials on scrap, othervise you can finish up with too much foam (depends on how much you moisture it). Some pictures of wing build from EXP and glued with polyurethane. Regards |
