RE: New to painting
1 Attachment(s)
I'm currently working on the 40 size F-18 pusher model featured in RCM. The model has a foam deck covered with 3/4 oz. cloth and epoxy. The joint between the wing panels and the fuselage are strengthened with 2 oz cloth and epoxy. It is recommended to cover the lower section of the nose area with fibreglass cloth. The wing is balsa and fully sheeted.
I felt with all the sanding on the fuselage and the already wide use of glass cloth it didn't make sense to cover this in ultrakote or monokote, so I am painting this with 3/4 oz cloth, WBPU and latex paint. The plane is already sealed with sanding sealer, cloth and wbpu applied to the wings. It was cheap enough for Rona (or Home Depot) to mix the FS colours; Light Gray FS#36375, Medium Gray FS#35237 from Model Master paint chips. I use the model Radome Tan FS#11140 from the smaller paint container. The last model I tried to paint was a Sig Kougar at 30 years ago with K&B epoxy paint. I sold it at the club auction. I remember Gerry's comment "nice but heavy". Jim |
