Truck Rack

I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 regular cab that I have started a airplane carrier rack for. The rack is not fully finished but here are some pictures. I also am going to have the wings slide in under the planes.

Nice looking rack, I used schedule 40 to build a ceiling rank to hold some of my airplanes. It designed so I can take it down and slide it into a truck. The only problem is I don't own a truck now.

Good looking rack. If you want to lighten your load and increase your gas mileage you could send me the Staggerwing..... :D

Okay, then I will take the Gee Bee. He is certain to save tons of gas money. :)

rowdog_14, how do you plan on securing the planes in their cradles ? So they do not blow out of the back of your truck ?

I am going to put vertical pvc pipes beside the planes and on top of them small hooks so that I can put straps going from one to the other. I will post another picture as soon as I am done. I still have to do the wing holders that will go on the bottom. Right now I am about $40 bucks in the hole for making this rack.

Nice looking rack. As you prolly already know, it needs some foam pipe insulation where the fuse's rests on the rack.

Mann you all are killing me. :) That is the reason why I said it is not finished. I have rubber tubing around them now, but I was way ahead of you. :). I will post the finished product later.

Rowdog,
I have a similar thing I use in my pickup.
I make it the full length of the truckbed so it can't move back and forth.
Just a suggestion.
Good Luck,

I have that covered too. If you look at the bottom of the pictures there a little small legs that go into a grove that keeps it from moving.

Rowdog,
I see that now - good job.
I pulled the plastic liner from my bed when I got the truck.
I can't use that method in mine.
I also installed a rollup tanneau cover.
Prevents me from getting planes that are to large.
Makes for a nice safe trip to the field and I don't worry
when I'm parked at the store on the way home.
Have fun,

Ok, this is pretty much how it is going to be, I just have to add hooks, some more rubber padding, and a few more screws. I will have to put the staggerwing wings in the cab with me like I have always done unless someone can see what I can change to get the staggerwing wings in the bed too. I am really not worried about it (the staggerwing wings) but inputs would be nice.
