Your call. Use the one that runs better, is easier to tune, etc.

It is called a "Kaos 40" for a reason. It is a fairly old design. A modern .40 will be more than enough power.

....the Tower Kaos is a 60 size plane. It has a 55 inch wing. A super Kaos has a 58 inch wing.
The Tower Kaos has a fatter wing than the old Kaos's. It will be a dog with a 40/46 engine.

The Kaos is a pattern plane. The tower Kaos with a 40/46 engine won't come close to flying
the way the plane was intended to fly....ie lots of vertical climbs.

Trust me, I have been a "Kaos Man" for three decades. I have a Tower Kaos in the pile. I
dropped a Magnum .52 in the fuselage just to eyeball it....

....no way, too small.

My Kaos flies well (the way it was intended by Joe Bridi) with a strong .61, thank you. :D

FBD. :)

But he said "40 kaos"

I flew my (and I'll probably get crap for being a cheapskate) first Tower Kaos 40 with a Tower Hobbies .46 and on my second Tower Kaos on a GMS .47 and both performed great with plenty of power authority to pull through the beginning and intermediate pattern maneuvers without issue. Dropping a .54 or larger into the airplane basically will turn it into a brick when the engine quits in my opinion. But there again it's my own opinion. Airplanes should fly on the performance of what the wing and engine provide and not just where one points the engine.

Modern day engines developed much more power then what they did 3 decades ago....

Cheers,

I have a Rossi 45 on an original Bridi Kaos, 'cept it's a sixty size. Weighs in at 5.25 lbs. ready to fly. Nice flying rocket ship.

I have a kit built Tower Kaos 40 with an OS 46FX. Flies the Sportsman pattern like a champ. I'm putting a Macs pipe on it this winter.

Any 40 or 45 will fly the Tower 40 Kaos just great. What is this "60 size plane?" The Tower Kaos is not a 60 size plane, and with a 45, it is a very manuevarable plane and with full power it is fast, and has great vertical.
I have flown Kaos's for many years, and from several different manufacturers. I almost always have a Kaos in my hanger. I have read that it can't do a knife edge (not true), that it is
a poor ARF (not true) poor covering (not true). I am always amazed when this plane is criticized, since it is easy to build, has a very reasonable price. Just one of the best planes available
for a sport stunt airplane.

What do I think? I think either are an excellent match for the airplane however my preference would be the Rossi that would make an awesome combination.

Flew maiden on an old 40 Koas today. Used a new os 46 sf, hi-torq micro servos. Increased elevator throw- was not able to get off ground. After the trim adjustment, the Koas flew great with very little trim. This bird took off in a head wind of about 10-12 knots in about 25 feet. Smooth, tracked well, landed easily. It has a 4 oz. tank. Should get 15-20 minutesw flying time. This engine is a fuel sipper and powerful to boot.

Any of you guys tried a 4-stroke, say an OS 52, in the Kaos? The specs have it at the upper end of suggested engines, but I was curious if anyone out there has tried it.

Not a Kaos but another Joe Bridi design very much the same with minor variations. Its a Sun Fly Three. Weight just over six pounds with an OS 70fs. Its a delightful flyer and even just competed yesterday in a small club cross country rally event of four miles.

Of late its been my favorite quick grab it and run flyer, works well indeed.
