Balsa Clean up
What do you use, besides K2R, to clean fuel soaked balsa?

RE: Balsa Clean up
A mixture of Baking Soda and Alcohol will work too

RE: Balsa Clean up
Thanks for the info. I should have known that. I have relied on K2R for too long.

RE: Balsa Clean up
Kitty litter will work as well. Slide the wood into a bucket of it and let it sit for a couple of days. Good Luck, Dave

Thanks for the info Dave. I'll try it.

I have also tried the heat from your covering heat shrink gun (not an iron the hot air gun), which will drive the fuel out of the wood. you can use tools to press paper towels against the fuel to soak it up after it is driven out of the wood. this is slow but gets more fuel out of the wood than K2R etc.

Sticking the wood in plain talcum powder will also work in a day or so.

RE: Balsa Clean up
Im from California.
I think just washed it properly . |
RE: Balsa Clean up
Go to an auto parts store and get brake cleaner, Berry mans B-12 carb cleaner, acetone, all work well. Watch it around plastic though. It will melt them in a hurry. I have sprayed with carb cleaner then poured corn starch in there. After it dries I use compressed air to blow in out.
may have to repaet a couple of times but the oil will come out. Dru. |
RE: Balsa Clean up
DO NOT COMBINE THE CARB CLEANER WITH THE APPLICATION OF HEAT! This has the potential of creating VERY hazardous gasses. This is a very risky area to be dabbling in.
BE VERY CAREFUL! Bedford |
