Tx Cleaning
 

Hey, I have a couple old radio's (Tx) that work fine and thinking of donationg them to my club. The thing is, they and been laying around in the garage for some time and are really dusty. Just brushing the dust of doesn't clean them up like I would like. I was think of using some contact cleaner on them (electrical). What are your thought's or how have you done it?

Well, I keep a brand new 3" nylon paintbrush that I've cleaned a few things with.

Use it to dust the radio with first, then rinse it out.

Shake out most of the water and spray with some Simple Green.

Work it into the brush and dry fairly well with a towel and use it to work the corners and crevises. You can kinda control where the small runs are and catch it with the brush. You dont want to soak it where it will run inside the box, of course. Tilt and work upside down if you have to.

Repeat with a clean damp brush.

Wipe everything down after than with a damp towel and you should be good to go.

Ive separated some of my old TX's and blown high pressure air thru them (40psi) with no harm. After a while all sorts of dirt and dust gets all over the circuit boards and under the buttons.

Do the same to my computers and home theater amplifier ever other year also, helps them run cooler and gets the dust bunnies out.

Disconnect and remove the battery first. Then I use a high quality long hair paint brush with long bristles to brush the TX clean while sucking away the dust debriswith a vacuum cleaner.
Then I dampen (not wet)the brush with methylated spirit or cleaning aerosoland repeat brushing/vacuuming. Do not use any water or water based cleaning liquids as it will cause corrosion of copper trim tab and stick pots/switches inside. Then give a final vacuum to finish off. I'v been doing it for years. Fit and reconnect the battery. Viola, clean Tx.

i use rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs

I sit down with a box of q-tips and dip them into windex.
