Hardware container for each plane
 

I keep the bolts, nuts, washers, etc. to field assemble each plane in a labeled container in my flight box. This saves time at the field and helps ensure the right length bolts are used at each place. For the container, I have used film canisters (don't see much of them anymore) or the similar cannisters that glucose testing strips come in.

I use Medicine bottles, 35mm containers and test strip containers. The only difference is I put the containers inside the planes if possible.

Another useful recycled container is the Crystal Lite or Kool Aide canister that holds the little tubs of powdered mix. Because many of my planes are larger, the test strip/35mm film canisters are too small. I also label the lid with the airplane they are for and store in the cabin. I also put the size ( length and pitch on a card inside the container so if I have to replace something I know exactly what I need and I don't end up carrying an airplane into the hardware store. I tend to feel conspicious rolling a 30% Extra into Home Depot.

I've got an open cockpit giant with plug-in wing halves bolted in under the pilot's seat. I have a bolt holder built into the seat back. Everything stays in the plane. Having made it to the field a time or two without the assembly stuff, I had to come up with something. Now if I could just figure out a way to build in the Tx ...

I use the containers that HiTec servos come in. They are transparent/clearish blue and you can easily see the parts inside to distinquish which container is needed. Like Mike above most of my planes are large scale and the hardware doesn't fit into the smaller containers.

I use a variety of containers depending on the plane. Some contain only 4 or 5 screws/washers+spares. Others have nuts and bolts along with wing struts. For my B-25 I have nut, bolts, machine guns and a nose canopy.

The important thing is to get yourself in the habit of looking for that plane-specific box every time you get a plane ready. Then you onlt risk leaving the Tx home : )

After taking the plane apart, I just screw the parts back into where they came from. That way they are always with the plane.

Yep, thatz me. I sure miss those events. Hope to find Space City still doing them when I get back. Those XCs are the most fun I have had flying RC.

I like to use those plastic tube containers that hold the mini M&M's. They come in two different sizes, multiple colors, and the contents aren't bad either!
