FIXING A BENT CRANKSHAFT

Have you guys ever repaired a slightly bent crankshaft on a small 2 stroke ? Specificaly an O.S.46 AX ,It was in a crash 2 years ago .Very Little run time. The engine case was damaged at the mounting ears so I replaced the engine case and bearings. Now the slight bend is at the front base of the propeller, right where the threads start on the crank. Does this matter? This is going on a recreational aircraft.
Thanks NJ

Flyboy Dave will fix it for you if you send it to him. :)

You can also try it yourself. It is not too difficult. Use a lead mallet, or a plastic dead blow hammer, not a steel hammer. Set the crankshaft on wood blocks, hold it down tightly, and tap the bent end very lightly and measure each time after a hammer blow to see if it has straightened.

How do you know it's bent? What's the TIR?

Personally, I would replace it.

Place your engine block on a flat surface such as a doorjam or table top for a reference , remove glow plug then rotate engin.Useing the flat surface parellel with the crankshaft as a reference point. A true crankshaft will not have any lift when rotated.

If it is bent near where the threads begin I would replace it.
