Improving NB LR3 Land Rover
Hi (and welcome!)
Ayear or so ago now i bought a LR3 Land Rover for my dad as an xmas present, as google searchs and things implied it would be pretty good.
Whilst the body seems sturdy and robust and things, it suffers from a lack of power/torque so on things like grass it struggles to get above walking pace. Ihoped really that it would be fun for bouncing around over jumps and things.
So, does anyone know if there are any simple ways to improve it. Would adding an extra battery pack help and if so how would i connect them? Dependent on cost it may go on ebay if it cant really be improved much, i got the impression it was aimed at an older age group than what it seems to have been aimed at.
Thanks
Steve

RE: Improving NB LR3 Land Rover
I assume brand = NB... =New Bright.
Increasing voltage would increase power, but you'd fry the electronics. Aside from major surgery, there's not a whole lot you can do.
I suggest replace radio/receiver, add electronic speed control... then replace/upgrade motors... add 7 cell battery. Or look on ebay for something used, but better/faster. Mu Dad bought a 4wd brushless motor Traxxass Stampede (about $450) and ITS FAST! Doesn't slow down at all in grass.

RE: Improving NB LR3 Land Rover
Well considering a New Bright is toy grade I assume you don't want to spend all that much money, either for upgrading or for a new vehicle.
As far as upgrading goes, the New Bright isn't all that bad of a platform. Look into mods that other people have done and see what you can find. If you want to mod without frying or having unstable electrics, you could try purchasing a cheap used ready-to-run vehicle for fairly cheap. You're going to have to find out what size motor and other such things before you try to transplant electronics.
If you do want to purchase an entire hobby grade RC, A crawler similar to the New Bright in design may be difficult to find for cheap. I suppose there may be other options but I would like to hear your opinion first. Thank you!

Yeh its this one, sorry;
http://www.newbright.com/product/view/id/133
From the above it sounds as if im likely to spend vastly more than the cost of the thing in the first place. Sadly then, it may be going on ebay. Shame, because it looks ace with the big chunky tires and things!

RE: Improving NB LR3 Land Rover
Thats fairly accurate as fars as pricing goes. given the fact you bought toy grade originally due to price and looks, I suppose thats what you want to retain most. I think you should look into measuring the wheelbase size, etc. I think it might fit on an Team Associated RC18 which can be found for cheap. You could put the body on and get some similar wheels, and other mods. I believe I've seen one in a stoore before, and I think by scale its kind of around 1/18. Also check out Losi's cars. Theyre great quality, and perfect for beginners. The 1/18 Mini Highroller is great, and the LR3 may fit just about perfect. If you know of or can measure the car, I'd be happy to help you along. I'm looking forward to maybe seeing the build.
