Default RE: ((BIG-CRAWLER)) NEWBRIGHT JEEP 1/6 MODS (LOULOU-TEXX)

Hey Texx, I have always loved your "Big crawler" and today at the local flea market I found an exact twin to it.  It had no remote, battery or battery cover but got it home and used the parts from my 1/10 scale and it all worked fine.  Unfortunately my front dif is not locked but it is fun and quick.  My first problem is that two of the tires have flat spots on them from sitting too long.  I think tire foams would help push them back out and round but wonder what the community thoughts are.  Also, what size tires are these if I was looking to replace them?
Also, made my first serious mod on my 1/10 scale crawler, I now have 4 wheel steering but I will post that with pics and info soon

Yes, The foams should surely help ..[8D]

I do not know the size of those big tires ..[]

Bring a tire, your hobby shop, they will tell you the size of this big tire, and I think they might have in store ..

I already buy on ebay, 4 spare tires for my LAND-ROVER .. The price was reasonable .. Search (newbright 1 / 6 jeep) or something like that [8D]..

##############################################

To lock your front differential, you open the diff ..

you exit the main shaft ..

you open the big gear center ..

you put epoxy glue ..

you close and wait until everything is very hard ..

Be sure to have the epoxy around inside that big gear ..

It sells, I think, a certain paste, (( jb-weld ))to insert in the gears of the gear, and it does the same work that the epoxy glue ..

PS ..
Your rear diff is already locked by newbright [8D]

rear diff ..

################################################## ####

I install a system on ESC BIG-crawler, ( see page 10 ) ...[8D]

.. The price for the kit FUTABA was very reasonable (( Tower's Low Price
84.99 ))
.. This system works very well ..

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=LXASX4**&P=7

You can keep the stock esc, but I recommend the kit FUTABA ..

Browsing my thread, and you will find many ideas for your ((DARK-CRAWLER))

PS .. Give us a picture of this big crawler 1 / 6 JEEP .. thank ..[sm=thumbup.gif]

I will take apart the front dif when I get some time and see if your post makes more sense. On the topic of an ESC, the total purchase price for my crawler was $8.00 USD. It had no battery cover, no battery or transmittrer but I already had all of that at home on my 1:10 scale NB. So I don't want any pricey mods on this crawler just budget modifications. Thanks as usual Texx

Is the ESC that member "RC theman" commented about on page 4 of this forum able to run two motors if I were thinking about running it on my version of Texx's "big crawler"? Here is a link for quick reference, I want to upgrade steering servo at least in my 1/6 jeep rockcrawler and if I need to do the ESC, I can budget a little more cash for my crawler! Also Texx, do you get enough low end torque on "Big Crawler" with your stock gearing and motors, or have you made a mod to keep it crawling over the large rock?

Here is the link to the cheaper ESC commented on by RC theman http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAMN7&P=SM

You can buy the esc,....

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXAMN7&P=SM

but my FUTUBA kit included everything needed

((receiver / servo with three wire / transmitter / esc MC230CR / one switch ..

and BIG-crawler has 2 motor, and everything works very well $ 85.00 ..

with one, DEANS T parallel, the esc turns both motors ..

and,one other DEANS T for my 2 battery in parallel

For the servo, it is included in the kit FUTABA, and it works only with the kit esc ..

################################################## ####

PS ..

To install a servo HG, you absolutely must install a complete kit esc
((Receiver / servo three wire / transmitter / esc MC230CR / 1 switch, and remove all electronic stock .

.as I did with BIG-CRAWLER[8D]

With the installation of ESC, the crawler is much more powerful than the stock electronics.[8D]

SERVO

RECIEVER

TRANSMITTER

ESC

SWITCH

My ESC installation ..

wITH 2 BATTERY ..

##################################################

The differential BIG-CRAWLER are stock, it already have the 4 th gear ..

This crawler is very powerful [sm=punching.gif] ((( with ESC )))

see my thread for details and tests of all kind ..

HELLO ..

For added protection, I sealed the ESC system, of, BIG-crawler with a small plastic bottle.

Prevention is better than cure.

Now I can make some walks in the snow.[sm=thumbup.gif]

A small video should be ready within days ..

OH NO .. it is not delivered to the scrap, it is there.[X(][X(][X(][X(] ON THE ((( FORUM )))

I'll try, to make chains / tires, for BIG-CRAWLER (which is idle for the winter season) ..

If I managed a little walk on the snow will be good for this big bear .. [X(]

I'll visit some stores and find the proper size of chain for its bigger tires ..

HELLO ..

I started the manufacture of chains for BIG-CRAWLER .. [8D]

They will surely be useful for a little ride on the snow ..

8 feet of chain, a single wheel for $ 5.50 ..

(((( I'll install the chain on my spare / tires .. They have not been reworked (cut) ))))

And this tire will be installed on the other side ..

The work is long enough .. One wheel per day is enough ..

THANK ..

Texx, I like the first tire chain, looks like it will be very functional.  I need to make a pair of snow chains for some of my New Bright vehicles.  What type of chain did you use?

HELLO ..

I find a little trick for storing BIG-CRAWLER without becoming flat tires .. A small metal shelf ..

When tires are becoming flat, it is very difficult to repair ..[]

Prevention is better ..[sm=thumbup.gif]

DARK, has already had this problem .. with its big tires JEEP 1 / 6.

Too long in storage, and the tires become flat ..[]

HELLO ..
There is a long time, that BIG-CRAWLER wanted his hex metal.

I started this mod (prepare my parts), a few months ago, but I had no time for installation. []

Work is to begin . ... I have a complete wheel ..

I installed a long hex metal, I driller, a small hole, which crosses the hex of metal, and the differential shaft.

A small metal rod, secures the hex metal.

I insert the wheel, and screw a nut to hold everything.

Now this wheel is very strong.

HELLO .. Work continues ..

The front wheels will be completed soon ..

With this mod, the 4 hexagonal metal, remain in place on the shaft, solidified by a metal rod.

Previously, the plastic hex, remained in the wheels.

BIG-crawler will be ready to climb the big rock.[sm=thumbup.gif]

With this mod, the wheels will be much stronger,[sm=punching.gif] the hex of plastic, are a thing of the past.

HELLO ..
Now install the 4 hex metal is complete.

The 4 wheels are solid.

This mod was very important. BIG-crawler is often the rock climbing and the wheels are working very hard.

The hex of plastic, would use in a short time.

This mod was very easy to do, and some are easy to find.

These hex metal, will always remain on the shaft of the Jeep.

I'll prepare my two other set of rim (open end), and they will be ready to change tires (summer / winter)
